Trying out the $11's

I worked my BR up to $200 and then decided to move up to the $11's. I placed 3rd in the first one I played and then proceeded to loose the next 5 so I moved back down to the $5's. I'm sure it was just a bad run. Actually I know it was. I had big PP's that ran into bigger PP's 2 of the 5. I'm moving back down for peace of mind anyway. I've placed 8 of my last 9 down there since being back. I'm switching some funds over to party seeing that I can't track my HH's at pokerroom.

Year end goal

I’ve set a goal of obtaining a $7k bankroll by years end. I’ve decided that I’m going to focus all my play on S&G’s to do this. I started out with a $35 roll on the 27th. I’m up to $112 having played 22 S&G’s with a 54.5% ITM and a 65% RIO. Yes, I know this probably isn’t sustainable but I’m doing well so far. Hopefully if all goes as planned I will jump up to the $10+1 S&G’s at the end of August with a roll of around $1400 by the end of September and $2300 by the end October. At that time I should be able to jump to the $50+5 S&G’s and work up to my year end goal.

I think by December or January I could be playing in the $200+15 S&G’s making a nice profit.

Learning new strategies

I joined a coaching site called cardrunners.com a week ago. The guys whom run it are huge online winners and very young to boot. Their strategy is to play an aggressive game in position and pretty tight OOP. This is a theory that has eluded me up until now and I like it. It just makes since. I'm going to focus all of my time on $5 S&G's for now and then work my roll up to where I am playing some of the high BI S&G's. I probably won't play too many MTT's for while until I build my BR up a bit. I tried playing a very LAG strat for cash games but I don't like it. I really like playing tourneys more so I think for better piece of mind I'll stick to that. Cash games are extremely difficult for me right now.

On the bubble

Played in an $11 MTT today. Made a bone-head move with 89s in late MP with 17k in chips. Blinds were 1200/2400 with a 50 ante. It folded around to me and I pushed like a dumbass. My stack was too big to be pushing this. IDIOT!! The tourney paid top 40....guess where I placed? You got it, 41st. looser

Day with Tommy

Today was my poker training day with Tommy. I have to say that he is one hell of a knowledgeable guy on hold 'em. His expertise is more on the limit side which I was a little disappointed with. I didn't think that I got out of it what I went in expecting, although I think that his training will help me in the long run...just not in the department I wanted. His training has more to do with tilting less and entering a specific and deliberate mindset; and that is great! I'm going to have to hire another coach...someone with more MTT experience as that is what I like to play. I hate playing limit...to me it's monotonous. Now that my bankroll is pretty much depleted (due to the $1k fee), I’m going to have to start from scratch.

I’m making it my personal goal to play some of the smaller buy-in MTT’s and sit n’ go’s to build my BR up so that I can ultimately play in the higher buy-in MTT’s. More to come. late!

Two weeks!!

I haven't played in a little over two weeks. I've had time to study and read some more. I reread HOH l again and I'm almost done with ll for the second time as well. I've learned more in the last 2 weeks just slowing down and taking my time actually studying the game than I did in the first 2 years. I've learned a lot from some of the regulars at 2+2. Posting HH's and responding sure does rile up a thought process like no other. I spend every waking hour thinking about my game, thinking about strategy.

I think to become a better poker player you must think about the game away from the game, I think! I know it's helped me a lot. It's funny I say all of this yet I haven't even put it into practice. It's like learning theory of a subject and not putting it to use. Funny!

On a side note, I think I think too much. I think I may have some abnormal anxiety issue that I need to get looked at. Whatever.

Sunday is my first session with Tommy Angelo and I'm excited about it. I'll definitely be posting a grip about what I've learned from him so stay tuned. late

Poker coach part ll

Had my first consultation with Tommy Angelo today. We spoke a bit about where I am in my game and where I want to be. We went over a little about what we will be discussing in his "program". I have to admit he is quite expensive, however if he is as good as what I've been hearing then I'm cool with it. We will begin the program on July 16th. I have almost 2 weeks until then so that will give me plenty of time to re-read most of my poker books as I won't be playing. I'm excited!! Let's get it on!!
